September 7–11, 2026
Call for Papers
Geolinguistics and dialectology are at a pivotal juncture in the 21st century, facing transformative challenges and opportunities that are reshaping the disciplines. Historically characterized by their adaptability to societal shifts and methodological advancements, these fields have continually evolved in response to the dynamic interplay of theoretical and empirical science. The recent surge in international collaboration has further broadened research horizons, fostering cross-border perspectives and enriching the scope of inquiry.
Traditionally focused on the regional variation of individual languages, dialectology is now increasingly oriented towards typological studies and interlinguistic relationships. In an era defined by global change, the field has transcended its national boundaries to emerge as a truly international domain of study.
Our conference theme, Geolinguistics Across Borders, reflects this paradigm shift. Through a dedicated theme session, we aim to explore the unique challenges and opportunities geolinguistics and dialectology face in a globalized and technologized world. We invite contributions that explicitly address the interplay between dialectology, globalization, and technologization, and we seek to stimulate dialogue on how these disciplines can continue to innovate and thrive in an interconnected world.
In addition, we welcome contributions from all possible geolinguistic and dialectological sub-disciplines, for example:
- Cognitive dialectology
- Dialect contact
- Dialect sources: texts, dictionaries, atlases, corpora
- Dialectology and pragmatics
- Dialectology and language structure (phonetics, morpho-syntax, lexic)
- Dialectometry
- Dialects in media
- Geolinguistics in general
- History of geolinguistics and dialectology
- Interdisciplinary dialectology (language history, onomastics, ethnography)
- Interlingual dialectology: multilingual and multicultural variability
- (Digital) Methods in dialectology
- Perceptual dialectology
- Sociolinguistics of dialects
- Theory of dialectology
