Social Events

The excursion will go to Eisenach, the city of Martin Luther and Johann Sebastian Bach. There, we will visit the historic Wartburg, where Elisabeth from Thuringia lived in the 13th century (the namesake of Elisabeth church in Marburg) and where Martin Luther translated the New Testament to German in the 16th century. Moreover, we will visit the Bachhaus, one of the oldest houses in Eisenach, where an exhibition on Johann Sebastian Bach is shown.

Marburg Museum for Art and History of Art
The Museum of Art and Cultural History at Marburg University is a place of aesthetic experience and cultural education. It contributes to the rich cultural offerings of the state of Hesse. At two locations, it preserves and displays a wide variety of works of art and cultural-historical objects from all periods.
The Marburg Art Museum is located in the center of the modern university town, just a few steps away from the historic city center. On display here are: an overview of art, primarily from the 20th century, based on selected works from the collections of Richard Hamann, Rainer Zimmermann, and Hilde Eitel, as well as important works of regional art, especially from the artists’ colony in Willingshausen, by Carl Bantzer and Otto Ubbelohde. Landgraftenschloss (Marburg Castle)
A visit to Marburg Landgrave Castle offers not only the opportunity to view numerous objects from the cultural history of Philipps University of Marburg, but also a tour of some very special rooms: the magnificent Fürstensaal (Prince’s Hall) is considered one of the most beautiful secular Gothic halls in Germany, while the castle chapel, consecrated in 1288, captivates visitors with its medieval frescoes and colorful interior design. Important historical events took place at Marburg Landgrave Castle, such as the Marburg Religious Colloquy between Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and other reformers in 1529.
